INFORMATION

Known in the town as "the tin bridge", it served as a crossing over the Durcal river gorge, although it had previously been working as a railway bridge on the Guadix-Baza line, over the Gor stream (section inaugurated in November 1906 ). The bridge was made by a disciple of Eiffel and it was built with rolled iron profiles joined with rivets or rivets.

Due to a landslide in the area, it was necessary to rectify the route of the line and the bridge was abandoned. This circumstance led Tranvías Eléctricos de Granada S.A. to dynamit it and carry out its transfer to Durcal in 1924, after reducing its length from 400 to 200 meters. Initially, the electric tram project was the connection between Granada and Motril by means of a narrow-gauge electric railway, although the project stayed in Durcal, where the tram arrived at a station that, now abandoned, continues at the entrance to the town. Next to this station there was a cable car that, with a 38-kilometre section, contemplated the route to the port of Motril to release the agricultural products of the Lecrín Valley. Although the latter train was only in operation until 1958 due to frequent thefts it suffered, the passenger tram continued to run the Granada-Durcal route (it took an hour) until 1974 (when, in its place, a regular bus service was installed ). After ceasing to be used in 1976, the bridge was on the verge of being dynamited by FEVE and only the intervention of the delegate of the General Directorate of Fine Arts, Mr. Vicente González Barberán, was able to avoid it and it was finally ceded in 1983 to the Diputacion de Granada for its preservation. Today it belongs to the Town Hall of Durcal.
