White town of Granada located to the west of the Lecrín Valley, immersed in the Albuñuelas mountain range, with an approximate extension of 14,000 hectares; considered the "Lung of the Valley". Privileged place that counts on enclaves where the visitor will be able to contemplate admirable views; as well as, strolls by a forest of pines and centennial olive trees, lulled constantly by the rumor that produce an endless number of springs and streams, that next to the Santo river, form a true aquiferous paradise.
Nature and water give life to the different species of animals (thrushes, partridges, blackbirds, rabbits, wild boars, deer, mountain goats, wood pigeons,...) and plants (wild, aromatic and medicinal species) that populate this mountain range.
It is also a pleasure to visit places such as the Castle and see from there the silhouette of the three neighbourhoods of Albuñuelas: the Alto, Bajo and La Loma; or to go into its narrow and strait streets, traces of a medieval past, full of picturesque corners of singular beauty, accompanied by the kindness and hospitality of its people.
The gastronomy that can be enjoyed in Albuñuelas is exquisite. Typical meals full of feeling and tradition, elaborated with the most natural ingredients of our mountain range (with oils and products from the garden): potajes, pucheros, migas, pots, casseroles, street omelettes, pipirranas, and the most homemade and appetizing pastries: pestiños, buñuelos, roscas de huevo and roscas de anís.
→ The day of the Lord. The locals celebrate this day in the streets, all adorned with the objects for this procession.
→ The August Festivals. This is the longest celebration, 5 to 6 days, in which the residents of Albuñuelas and all visitors enjoy a variety of activities.
→ The day of "Las Roscas" (24th June). It is celebrated in the open air, in the countryside. An ideal occasion to get together with family and friends.
→ San Sebastian Day (20th January). The image of the town's patron saint is paraded through the streets of the town.
→ The Festivity of the Virgen de las Angustias (August 14th and 15th). The villagers make a floral offering to the Virgin in the village square on the occasion of her big day.
→ The Day of the Cross (3 May). This festivity is widespread throughout the province of Granada. Family and friends gather in the streets, around flower crosses decorated by themselves.
→ The day of "Los Hornazos" (Easter Sunday). Also celebrated in the countryside.
→ The Carnivals. Traditional festival throughout Andalusia, in which the residents of Albuñuelas, uninhibited for a few days.
The Albuñuelas festivities are an added tourist attraction to get into the soul of the village: its people. Festivals full of culture and tradition that respect and maintain the personality of an authentic Andalusian village. Hospitable and kind people, open to the visitor, inviting them to enjoy their cultural-historical legacy, going deep into their traditions.
Thanks to the splendid natural scenery and the mild Mediterranean continental climate, it is possible to practice all kinds of outdoor sports activities: paragliding, caving, canyoning, climbing, mountaineering, hiking, fishing, cycling and horse riding along so many rural roads. We also highlight areas such as:
El Cañuelo and El Secadero, recreational and rest areas, where the local population and the visitor can enjoy leisure days in direct contact with nature. The hunting grounds (big game and small game) that extend over 7,500 hectares, where the enthusiast will find a great variety of animal species, typical of a mountain range where hunting and the art of hunting can be widely developed.
