The hermitage of Santo Cristo del Zapato is located outside the urban area of Pinos del Valle (El Pinar), at the top of the Chinchirilla mountain. Inside we can find the painting of Santo Cristo del Zapato. It is said that this picture was found by a shepherd in the place where the hermitage stands today. He brought it to the church in the Barrio Alto and the next day it appeared again on the hill; it happened up to three consecutive times. This fact was interpreted by local people as a desire of the Saint to build his sanctuary in that place. The image of the holy Christ represents the figure of Christ with a dress. Below him there is a painted chalice and a shoe on top of it. Later the patron saints of the town were added: San Roque and San Sebastián.
On the night of February 1, 2009, a lightning destroyed the roofs of the hermitage. The painting of the Christ of the Shoe was found under the rubble. Fortunately, it did not suffer any serious damage except for the scratches typical from the accident. Thanks to the help of the neighbors, the hermitage was restored after this incident.
