A short distance from the placeta Morales is this house that is striking for the maroon color of its facade but, above all, for its peculiar decoration as it is almost entirely covered with seashells, including the curious battlements of the corners.
To access the interior it has an original caller composed of several cowbells of different sizes.
Its owner proudly shows us the fruit of many years of work.
“It all started with an idea of mine. Many people have come from all over. From Barcelona, Malaga, Almeria…. They are attracted by everything there, especially the mushrooms”.
He refers to a kind of flowerpot made of cement and filled with stony flowers.
Later he begins a long enumeration of the tools that he has been gathering and that, in many cases, have been given to him by his neighbors who know his hobby.
He begins with the tools of the resineros, a bed from the Vietnam War, several Roman plows, threshing machines of different types, scales and Roman scales.
A ‘uvio’ (yoke), a possibly Roman basin and several heads sculpted in stone complete the list before indicating that the heads are now made in pine or walnut wood.
Not in vain, he has had to search and rummage on the beaches of Motril for more than two million shells that he alternates with the fossils he has found in the surroundings of the Albuñuelas.
That is why this unique dwelling is known in the locality as ‘the House of Shells’.
